Quote from Lucrum:
Nope, that would be Erich "Bubi" Hartmann Of Germany (352) , Tetsuzo Iwamoto of Japan (80+), Hans Wind of Finland (75), Ivan Kozhedub of the Soviet Union (62),Constantin "Bazu" Cantacuzino of Romania (62), Richard I. Bong of the USA (40), Marmaduke 'Pat' Pattle of S.Africa/RAF (40+), Pierre Clostermann of France (33)...
Oddly enough I don't see Lee Archer mentioned.

I have avoided this thread.
The reason for that avoidance is that I saw someone being interviewed on television say "without the Tuskegee Airman the United States would have lost WWII".
That is such a ridiculous and incredible assertion that I realized that the movie was going to be some kind of propaganda statement and that any subsequent ET threads would devolve into a cesspool of rascism claims, inaccurate facts about the war etc.
But I finally broke down and took a look today. It literally made my stomach sour with disgust and revulsion.
I see Lucrum (and a few others), as usual replying simply, factually and persistently in the face of really monstrous stuff being said by the usual purveyors of dishonestly. AK-47 really outdoes himself here with low behavior.
The interchange (arguing, lol) with liberals on ET I enjoy and I even like and respect some of the liberal guys personally but the tiny percentage of them here that are real degenerates drags the whole discourse down to gutter level.
Lets see, I served in the 335th in the 70s. The 335th is part of the 4th Fighter Group and started out as one of the Eagle Squadrons. They were appropriated by the US military and became a bomber escort squadron out of Debden UK, first in P-47s and later P-51s. I've met Don Blakeslee and a few others at 4th Fighter Group reunions and have done some volunteer work on Mustang restorations. I know a thing or two about fighter escort work, the 8th AF and fighter aces.
The Tuskegee Airman did a good job and their contribution to the war effort helped the country recognize african-americans as being capable human beings willing to risk their lives for their country. But distorting that contribution into something that "saved the country" is really unspeakable, a slight to everyone who manned a bomber or flew a fighter in a bomber escort mission.
I won't be seeing the movie.
