Hillary proposing higher short term capital gains taxes

I don't have any problem with them engineering society on the distribution side. But on the accumulation side it should just be revenue, fair and square, no favorites.

Think before you reply

Ok, well at least we clarified when you want to pick and choose to socially engineer.

You're entitled to that view point, but at least we've cleared up that you misspoke previously.

all I said was taxes should be used for revenue, not social enginering
you couldn't understand that so I clarified it
I didn't misspeak, you just misread and didn't think before you posted

Taking money and then redistributing it is by definition social engineering.

The government is determining from whom they take it from, how much they take, and then who (and how much) they want to redistribute it to.

This isn't rocket science. You can call it revenue, but the entire process of forced redistribution is social engineering.

I think the point you're trying to make is that you only want to include the REDISTRIBUTION part of the equation, but one without the other is pointless.

no, I don't care what they do with it after they steal it. I just want them to steal from everybody equally.

If you want more investment, you shouldn't tax it more.

The old quote that has been attributed to many people over the last couple of centuries.....

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy."

Nice quote, but I'm struggling to think of a real example of a country that has gone democracy, dictatorship, monarchy, let alone one that has done so for that reason? Maybe France in French Revolution times with the sequence, but hardly for that reason.

I think the point is more that eventually democratic voters figure out they can vote for the candidate that gives them the most free stuff, and that has negative consequences.

I don't necessarily think it automatically gives rise to dictatorships/monarchies but certainly can lead to the creation of a culture of dependency which isn't a good thing overall.

It's not helped by the fact that we continually import people from the socialist and dysfunctional/dysfunctional countries to our south, who by and large tend to vote for the very same types of politicians they are trying to flee in their own countries.

Thanks, I got the point of the quote, just pointing out it didn't reflect reality.

taxes are to provide the government with revenue, not to engineer society.

I'm trying to think of tax that DOESN'T try to engineer society.

Sales tax: Cigs and booze taxed at higher rate

Income: The more successful, the more you pay. The less productive are rewarded.

Mort Int Deduction: Renters effectively subsidizing owners merely for choosing different.

I could on..
