Highest level of education?

Quote from swoop[TR]:

Being a high school drop out doesn't mean he couldn't/didn't get a higher education. These are not mutually exclusive events.

Right...some on the list later got their GED and started college,
some just got on with their career of choice.

Quote from LongShot:

in other words...

"i, candlretarde, crapped out of college.."

bwhahahaha!

i knew it, candle.

i just knew it!

HA!

:-/

ROFL... yet another stupid assumption by this intellectually deficient pos...

Quote from vikana:

Depending on trading style there is a lot of value in a solid background in statistics.

Without statistics how do you know the difference between a good(bad) trading strategy and a lucky(unlucky) streak? Vikana is right on.

If you can't do a two-tailed z-test (or don't know what one is!) you should hire professional money management help -- that is, stick to mutual funds, hedge funds, and CTA's.

Statistics lie brother. In the end it's all a game of chance.
Don't be fooled to think you rule this game just because you're getting a robust z test answer. Not that it doesn't help build confidence, but when the black swan hits, there's nothing you can do to stop it.

I graduated beauty school.
Quit art school. Nothing exciting here.

Bob graduated college with 2 BS in 3 years. Physics and mathematics. He got done quickly because he was paying for it himself....... My darling little nerd.

Quote from Breakout:

If you're looking for a correlation between education and probability of success as a trader, I don't think you'll find one. But, there's no question education opens doors. Here's a list of
people you may of heard of. BTW, they're all high school dropouts.

  • H.G. Wells
  • Jim Clarke...founder of Netscape
  • Jimmy Dean
  • Andrew Jackson...7th President
  • Daniel Gilbert...Harvard University Professor(earned a GED)
  • Walter Smith...President of Florida A&M University(got his
    GED when he was 23)
  • Jack London...American author
  • Andrew Carnegie
  • Charlie Chaplin
  • Charles Dickens
  • Thomas Edison
  • Mark Twain

Jimmy Dean high school dropout?

What makes you think he's a redneck? Seems like a pretty nice guy to me. And I bet he could teach the professor that teaches
"How to Start a Business...101" a thing or two.

While roulette and trading are indeed games of chance, the difference between you, Swoop, and the Mirage Casino is statistics. One of you makes money; the other thinks it's all a game of chance.

Breakout > education opens doors.
To where?
Breakout >Yea, I agree. I know some people who won't even listen to the opinion of someone
So, you are saying that some people need a degree to get people to listen to them?

Why do you have this need to have people listen to you?
Breakout >I think we can learn a lot, from the (so called) unlearned.
Are you saying that people who do not subordinate themselves to some established system of specialization are unlearned?
maxpi >approach to work
Well that says it all. Do you work to live or live to work?

If the highest you can expire to is a job, well of course stay in school as long as you can.

But if perchance you want freedom, the ability to exercise creative thought . Perhaps it is not taught in a formal system.
maxpi > compared to the rush-rush guys
Who wants to compare themselves to that? Get a life.
maxpi > I became more productive.
Just what we wanted Max. To be held in productive servitude.
maxpi > Hard work got me
Where you are. Where R U?
optionsplayer >who would you rather take advice from . a stock broker
Traders should not be taking advise from Brokers. Brokers are trained to live off their clients. Do your homework, “Where are the customers Yachats?”
optionsplayer > 7 figure annual salary and drives a convertible Ferrari?
Who do you think paid for that Fiat?
>i will choose the latter.
You chose to take advise from a broker who makes his living off of you?
vikana >else they wouldn't have completed a Ph.D.
Well that proves it. A bunch of people that you don't know using criteria from the last century have given their approval to somebody for something you know nothing about. And you subordinate yourself to them. You deserve to work to enrich someone else.
FishSauce >education is .. helpful but its not necessary.
Formalized education is not necessary. But Education is definitely necessary. You have to know how to read charts!
indahook > the poll was a good way to get a gage on ET`s members.
Only ET's poll taking members. It just shows that formalized educational students belive in consenses more than non-formalized students.
RichSohn >companies .. run by people with solid educational backgrounds.
These people have jobs. Just the thing of value to free independent traders. I guess it shows thay compromize there own creativity more.
RichSohn >Of course you'll have your occasional freaks of nature.
Are you talking about Bill Gates or Jesse Livermore?
Breakout >Just curious, where did you get that info from?
Makes sense. Boot lickers thrive in a formalized system of approval.
swoop[TR] >GPA, but it's a good way to show what you're made of.
What is a GPA and what does it mean you are made of?
swoop[TR] >College helps you gain confidence and focus.
People say the same thing about the military. Try holding futures contracts for a few months if you want to learn confidence and focus.
swoop[TR] > on your resume
If you were a success you would not need a resume.
swoop[TR] >It's like driving a Ferrari, you drive it for recognition, not cause it's a fast car.
You got that backwards. We drive Ferraris because our level of skill has increased to where few cars are capable of satisfying us. You drive a Ferrari because it is fun.
candletrader >Depends on your style of trading<
Depends!
Breakout >Jim Clark received a Master <
On school :
I think my father realised I wasn't very keen on studying, and I believe this quite suited him, as it meant he had no qualms about taking me away from when I reached the age of 16. He thought I would learn more, he said, on the farm than I would from school books.

peg_leg_joe >Higher Education .. There is a technical analysis program at Golden Gate University.
Does that imply that private TA schools are Lower Education?
