High-Speed Trading No Longer Hurtling Forward

Quote from CT10Gov:

ET Style HFT Technology? Delusion + Paranoia + Complete Ignorance of All Things Finance

100% agree with that. But what do you mean when using term HFT.

Quote from Clubber Lang:

Stopped reading right after this nonsense-

"Profits from high-speed trading in American stocks are on track to be, at most, $1.25 billion this year, down 35 percent from last year and 74 percent lower than the peak of about $4.9 billion in 2009, according to estimates from the brokerage firm Rosenblatt Securities. By comparison, Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase each earned more in the last quarter than the high-speed trading industry will earn this year."

Those numbers aren't even in the ballpark.

Only 1.25 billion profit. LMAO.

It's just another Zero Sum Game, baby... not magic.

I'd bet that > 95% of Algo operations lose money...
The expenses are completely off the charts...
But you probably have spinoff benefits for large firms...
Kinda like the late US space program.

Quote from vicirek:

This term is used freely by many and refers to variety of things hence the confusion. Can you provide us with what is your understanding of HFT technology ET style (succint)?

ET style?
HFT is the guy on the other side of everyone's losing trades.

Ha... good one. HFT is indeed the ET bogeyman.

It's always funny how people on a forum for short term trading so despise other people doing short term trading....

So what would be the condition for you to make winning trades? Who would you like to trade against? Santa?

And your profit from winning trades would come from whom?

This is the kind of reply from you that makes me wonder if you are playing with a full deck of cards...

Are you ignoring his point on purpose, or do you seriously not understand what he meant?

It is simple logic:

HFT wins 100% is false

And

everyone who trades with HFT "guy" loses is false.

Which means he does not have a point and by extension this applies to you.

vicirek,

I think monstimal was being sarcastic and/or mocking the "ET Style".
