Really, if you're going to be a criminal, be a banker or Wall Streeter. While your crimes may hurt a lot more people, at least you get respect and a country club jail, and little public reaction compared to a visceral street crime.

Yes in the sense that they rarely strong-arm rob a liquor store, walk down the middle of the street then assault a police officer which they then follow up by actually attempting to murder the police officer then flee only to turn and charge the officer. Respectable and responsible in that sense.
Is Madoff locked up in a country club jail? No, he is not. He is in a medium security Federal prison in Butner, N.C. locked up with a bunch of violent druggies, gangsters, and murderers.
