I think it's actually a very small segue with Chomsky, at least for his foreign policy (FP) writings. He's a linguist who took up an analysis of US FP-speak, comparing and contrasting it with the record (as it became publicly available) and with foreign reporting, and found a consistent underlying pattern which indicates that the US is a self-serving empire (to which thinking people today would say, "no duh").

I don't think Ferguson is in any way anti-American in fact he comes across as a promoter of the US, I reckon the world would be duller place without the likes of Chomsky.Quote from trefoil:

Chomsky is not a communist and he has never espoused or promoted communism as a social and political ideolgy. It is clear you have no idea what a communist is but use the term as an all purpose word to describe anyone who advances criticism of the American establishment.
