Hedging: Stock long & QQQQ short.

Why haven't I heard this one before, as it seems quite obvious: If you believe a particular stock is a special prospect for long, but the overall market has much downside risk, not to stay away from the market, rather buy the stock long and short and index or ETF like QQQQ?
 
what stock could you possibly be long on right here.......besides something like BQI....an oil play if oil spikes.......you have had such a runnup.......you should have sold all longs last week.....but tomorrow is better than holding it..........very few stocks should be longs here......and don`t say apple.........you can buy that back cheaper in the future.
