Hedge fund worth it?

Thanks for all the great info people. Keep it coming!

In response to the question about what type of trading I'd be doing, I'm thinking the fund would be primarily global stocks and commodity futures, both alpha and beta strategies.

I wouldn't be day trading with the fund's money. My plan would be to continue to day trade my own money but manage the fund's longer-term strategies in tandem.

Oh, and I actually did have to justify my trading strategy to an investor over "Thanksgiving Dinner." He flew in from out of town and insisted meeting me.

Thanks for the posts Profit...

How did you get on the radar screen of the High Net Investors? How long did that take when you were starting up? Did you have some sort of blitz marketing effort, or rely on your previous address book/contact list?

Do you continue to market all the time, or just when you have lost a key investor?

What have you found to be the best way to find new investors?

When picking your strategy... Did you focus on one particular strategy? Or, several strategies?

Thanks again.

Even if you could make 50%, you just should not, with other people money.

50% doesn't come without significant risk.

Lossing 20% in your account is acceptable to many people here. Lossing 20% in a hedge fund is considered blowing up.

Exactly the sort of attitude that'll be the death of real hedge funds.

All those funds targeting libor plus 400 with limited volatility aimed at institutitonal investors ... what a scam.
