Hedge Fund TV Show

Quote from mike4242:

Ah, but you see that's just it; Tim never bought and held, he primarily made and makes his money SHORTING. Not that its easy to make 130x your money, but try doing that through tens of thousands of small trades, mostly on the short side.

And, he's not living in the past, his tiny fund is the #1 performing short selling fund industrywide, but he can't talk about that on the show because it might be considered advertising and that's a no no in hedge fund world so all he can talk about is his track record before he started the fund.

These two, traderyin + mike4242, crack me up... Just make up nice things about their daytradin' buddy and expect everyone to believe it. All right nevermind the show, just believe it he's #1 and forget the kid made a fool of himself on national TV.

But I like the show, some good shots and soundbytes, with the real traders. :D :D

Once again, his stats:

2003 6%
2004 20%
2005 23.5%
2006 -22% ytd

Where do you see consistent 20-30% returns?

No, I was asking if any of you were making 20-30% consistently year over year since you started trading. I'm guessing all of you are doing better than him? So why don't you tell us where were you when you were 24? Were you running $100 million hedge funds and making big money?

Are you now?

no, but I dont pretend to be someone I'm not, and making the entire trading industry look like a zoo from late 90s again...

I havent seen this TV show. How much money does this kid have under mgmt?

Coincidence, Trader's Monthly which I just got has a blurb on Timmy. It acknowledges that the show made him look like an ass ("see it was not just us and the blurb actually used the word ass") and that he is down 17% for the year when the S&P is up around 12%. I forgot the figure but he has $1 - 2 million assets but I think almost all of it is his because it says he turned his Bar Mitzvah money into $1.65 million. Given that he is 24, that means he traded from 1995 forward which was a great time to be long. It does not say how much he kept after the crash which I would be interested in..

I still think he is a tool for having his mom do his chores...

1.3M

Well....1.3m isn't "really" a hedge fund. Come on....thats rather funny. Hey.....the kid turned 12k into 1.3 mil. Thats great. He...like a ton of others road the mkt up back in the easy times. But to go around saying he is a hedge fund manager...and daytrades 1.3 mil is pretty damn far from being a real hedge fund. He's probably just some spoiled kid who was fortunate enough to be able to type in any four letters during the late 90's.

I also didnt realize 100k was FU money.....thats almost as funny as him saying he is a hedge fund mgr....

Comments on Episode #6:

The interesting thing about Tim is that he made his money by being long in the bubble priod, nevertheless he is mostly short right now. Seems to me as a completely different strategy.

Also as it was noted, he could try to act more professionally if he is after big money. The show definitely didn't make me want to throw a few millions at him.

There was this Pakistani chick in the show for no good reason. She is trading something obscure in the German market, we never really learnt what it was or how she does that.

I love Jim Rogers. He also didn't talk about trades, but at least we got to see his house (on the market for 15 mill) and his winecellar. If nothing more, the show is somehow entertaining, and it is a good INSPIRATION for beginners...

Still, a little more about trading would have been nice....

that pakistani trades a market that doesn't even trade. only banks trade them. plus the whole time she never traded once I think she is an operative of al-qaeda!!!:D

Just watched the video....holy shit.....the dude is trading 4k shares of a 6 dollar stock......acts like he is a hotshot....too damn funny....he is a friggin misquito in the world of trading....
