Hedge-fund prodigy takes a $300 million hit

i like this idea. But are they afraid that future laws may prevent them from flying drones in specific areas?

could be, then it will be back to sending out ground troops to the same thing if it proves effective.

We have used a similar idea called the private jet indicator to forecast the macro picture. Thr more private jets, the better the economy will be 6 months from now. There's dozens of these forecasting strategies--

After all our slogan is--- identify-- quantify-- exploit. Intrendx.com

For sure! No one wants to be first or second n line.

I met with a start up last week. Get this-- they have $23m AUM but employ 40 people in very xpensive office space. A wealthy investor is basically funding it personally with the philosophy "if u build it, they will come". They have not raised dollar one from outside--

23 Million and they employ 40 people ??????? Wow. That's absurd. When we started we had a small office right off of Clematis in downtown West Palm. Was a nice building, but we kept the office space small. Were a few other smaller start up funds in there as well. We kept it mean and lean.

Seriously, what do these 40 people do? Unless they are running a lot of strategies (lets say 15+) and are trading around the clock, how do they explain the crazy overhead ? Even so....that's nuts. Can see why they haven't raised a dime. Hell, when John Henry was at it's peak of 2 billion I think they might have had 20 people employed there.

Could be mostly marketing / client relations staff. Bridgewater, for instance, is said to have hundreds.

I hear ya. But last I checked Bridgewater ran a tad bit more than 23 Mil. How many people do you need to market a 23 million dollar fund? That's like 1.73 people per million. Bridgewater runs 120 billion. Bridgewater must have some serious office space. Their Christmas party costs must be astronomical.

That's the same mindset you had when you blew up your own fund. Lesson not learned, apparently.

Reminds me of a line in Rogue Trader 1999 movie....Ewan McGregor said something like: 'could have just as easily went the other way....if it went the other way, i would have been a hero.'
