Health Insurance Premiums Spike In Anticipation Of ObamaCare

Quote from nutmeg:

The Affordable Care Act — "Obamacare" to its detractors — allows health insurers to charge smokers buying individual policies up to 50 percent higher premiums starting next Jan. 1.

For a 55-year-old smoker, the penalty could reach nearly $4,250 a year. A 60-year-old could wind up paying nearly $5,100 on top of premiums.

Looks like the "Affordable Care Act" is going to price me out of the insurance market. Sheesh and I bitch about a 10% increase this year. Obama wants a 50% increase. Put it on my tab?
Just tell them that a new report out today says you will die 10 years sooner from smoking so you won't need health insurance as long as everyone else. So they should save money on you.

Question, is there anything restricting the insurance companies from charging smokers 50% more now, before Obamacare? Or 75% more or 200% more or denying coverage altogether?

Aaah, yes. Really insurance know who is the risk, who to make pay more money. This is not Obama. Nutmeg, please try to stop smoking for your own health. Because your family want you to be alive and to be with them. Cigarettes have so much more damage to your health. Try to stop now.

Just watched a segment on Rock Center and they talked to a Dr. who talked about the huge savings that can be had utilizing new technology. They had some very cool gadgets and used the iPhone for several expensive tests.

Or, you could do something about your addiction and quit smoking.:)

Quote from nutmeg:

First the smoker. Next they'll rate policies on BMI. Then family medical history.

That's what life insurance companies do. Makes equal sense for health insurance, doesn't it?

Quote from CaptainObvious:

And now we have this little gem. Smokers, you're about to get hosed and I mean hosed. 5 grand on top of your already sky high premium, and you'll read it here first. I'll bet companies start testing for nicotine in your system. You smoke and you're out of a job, or you'll cover this hike yourself. Overweight? You'll be next in line for this.

Answer?

Quit. Smokers are an enormous burden on the health care system, so are the obese.

Quit smoking and eating pie. If you do not be prepared to pay your fair share.
