LEH shorted its own stock as the hedge!
from yahoo messages board:

If the share drops it makes money from its hedge. If going up then they will raise money more successfully.

What's the problem here?

The market has discounted the news by dropping 30% in 10 trading days anticipated the move. Just too late when news hit the wire.
