Telling you to close your position is called a margin call. Nothing personal, just business. They have no obligation to let you wait for it to turn into a profit. Your account agreement with IB states that explicitly. You got away with this in the past. You should count yourself lucky, but just because you were lucky in the past doesn't mean that IB is abusing its rights by telling you to close your position. They could have autoliquidated and locked your account without telling you in advance and they would have been within their rights.
This isn't about being nationalisic about brokers it is about managing risk. IB has a responsibility to its other clients to close out your position so that you or some rogue trader doesn't take them down with excessive positions.

Well put. However, I do not feel that we should put down all French just because one of them can't trade. Think of it this way. Every time mike-claire loses a trade, its because I took his money!
