There was a settlement with the music industry concerning their attempt to control and inflate prices of music CD's between the period of 1995 and 2000.

If you have purchased music between these dates, you are eligible for a $20 settlement.

As of yet, only 30,000 people have signed up. This is your money, people.

You can proceed directly to the settlement page and file everything online. This will only take you a few minutes at most. You will be asked three questions that require a "Yes" answer. Once you have done that, simply fill out your name and information, including ONLY the last four digits of your SS#, and you will be included in the settlement. This should take approximately 6 months.

You may also file claims for deceased relatives who may have purchased music between these dates. Again, no receipt is necessary for you to make a claim.

Am I a Member of the Settlement Group?

You are a member of the Settlement Group if you are a person (or entity) in the United States or its Territories and Possessions who purchased prerecorded Music Products, consisting of compact discs, cassettes and vinyl albums, from one or more retailers during the period January 1, 1995, through December 22, 2000.

Again, this is the same deal with rebates -- most people won't bother, but if you sign up everyone in your family, it could see an extra $100 in your mailbox in a few months.

I am one of those deceased relatives who may have bought music between 1995 and 2000. Once I get my $20, my spirit will be released from its ceaselessly wandering. There are many more hapless shades from the spirit world who exist like me in an eternal restless purgatory caused by the unconsolable woe of having overpaid for music from 1995-2000.

Well, actually I didn't buy any music products in that period. But it was having to listen to what was passed off as music in that time that actually killed me. I guess 20 bucks evens the score, huh.
 
There's also a whole area of the Underworld filled with wraiths known as the Midas Minions who go around wailing "Im noo0o0oot gonna pay too much for this muffler!"

Not too far from them is another group we called the Geico Geists forever wailing "I could have paid too0oo0o much for my car insurance!"

Most of these actually died in auto collisions. Notice that what grieves them is not the circumstances of their deaths, which they have accepted as natural and without recourse to complaint, but the fact that the insurance which was paid out as a result of their death may have cost more than necessary. It's the little things that torture our souls throughout eternity.

the RIAA sucks and so do the lawmakers whose pockets they line...

another reason why rep democracy blows...

regardless of whether you bought 1cd or 1,000, all you get is a measly $20...i wonder who profits more, the RIAA or all the little guys who've bought one cd in the last 10 years...

Screw the Music industry, the Government should look at the pharmaceutical Companies.

I just stopped by Target to pick up some Claritin now that it is available over the counter. When I used to get my prescription filled it was about $250 for 100 tablets of the 24 hour. Now that it is over the counter the same 100 tabs cost $85.

Someone pass the lube..
