Have $25K.......Best way to begin learning to trade it

Quote from phil1424:

Jason did you loose the 25k yet? if not check out the pork belly pits .. you could very easily double your money in a few days or lose it all in a hour or two

No, I have not opened an account yet as I need to stack the odds in my favor as much as possible; trading at this point would be foolish. Not sure why you posted and the reference to pork bellies.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I believe I have found a thread to begin to understand what a good/valid trading plan will look like due to the number of examples given. I am working my way through the following thread:

Thank you, I hadn't realized that yet.

I definitely do need to respect the market, thank you.

Sorry, I reread my post about the golf - didn't come out right. All I meant was that it would take a lot of time and practice to even have a chance at being good.

My apologies.

Actually your comparisons of learning Golf and learning to trade are NOT too far off. I can honestly say that after Trading for 7 years ( 3.5 full time ) and playing golf for 20+ yrs., that mastering Golf is a more difficult task than learning to master trading.

Some might disagree but this is just from my own personal experience. They are both similiar in that many times you think you have mastered them and get a little cocky and all of the sudden you start shanking your drives without provocation or you break one of your trading rules and poof you are financially dead.

Both can be painful. And actually, you can never really master either. But Golf IMO opinion is tougher.

If I was to pick which occupation was harder to make a living from I'd say playing golf would hands down be more difficult than Trading !!

And I dare say that making a living from golf is much much harder than making a living from trading.
At least in this man's shoes

I agree, and the clubs you get at the putt-putt golf course are such low quality. No wonder its harder :p .

I hope you are right. It took me 3 years to break 80 consistently, but I would literally hit thousands of range balls a week and play golf every moment I could continually going back to the basics Nicklaus outlined in "Golf My Way". In 1989 when I was in 9th grade, I wanted to figure out who was the best ever and what did he have to say about learning to play. I still go back to that video if I haven't played for a while or get in a funk. I have only played 3 times this year shooting 76 at a longer course and 73 and 72 at easier shorter courses. I became a ballroom dance instructor, too; nearly as difficult as golf to do well. It is difficult to control your movement and muscles to make something look just right instead of awkward.

Alright, back to studying trading.
