I never had a bad steer from CR. Are you sure you aren't mixing up CR with Consumer Digest or one of the other copycat magazines? I remember the first big ticket item recommended by CR that I went to buy. I made the mistake of mentioning CR and the store owner started going on and on about how I shouldn't trust GoodHousekeeping, as if it was the same thing as CR. I didn't argue, just smiled, paid for my item and left.Quote from Bob111:
CR is no better thsn BBB. Bought few big ticket items, when I was moving into new house based on their reviews-nothing, but the trouble....
The BBB is not a government agency. Why did you just jump to that conclusion?Quote from tandh:
Is there any government agency that isn't a complete scam?
Quote from STC Capital:
Recently, I watched a documentary about the BBB. Lots of business owners came forward and stated how the BBB would black mail them into paying them for high ratings. They stated that the BBB would approach them and threaten to give them a low rating if they didn't pay them a certain amount. They also went on to say that anyone could pay for a high rating.

"They're more interested in the money than their credibility," he said.
Sounds like some prop firms.

I never understood the point of the BBB. I could pay a fee to belong and then what? Tell my customers I'm a member of the BBB? Who feels good about that? Somehow this lends credibility to your business? BFD.
