Has anyone tried running more than 4 monitors from a Laptop ?

I run 3 22" monitors off of a Thinkpad T420s (optimus card) in a docking station for my temporary setup (vacation home). They are Viewsonic VX2250-wm, $150 each from Amazon. Works nicely for a plug and play system, heat is somewhat of a concern, but a fan control software helps out. Not suitable for a permanent rig though, for that I have a system from digital tigers.

Quote from Neal:

I am thinking about running 8 monitors using two ATI FirePro 2460 Video cards on one of Dell Laptops.

ATI FirePro 2460 has 4 output ports each.

Is it possible to do so & if yes, what specs of a Laptop should I be looking for ?

If anyone has tried it or are running them, can you please show your configuration ?

Thanks

A few issues here:

1. The Firepro 2460 is for desktop computers and will not work on a laptop
2. This card is already obsolete
3. The card is substantially is overpriced.

If you want to run multiple monitors from a laptop you will need USB Monitor Adapter cards...Kensington makes a very good one...you can add 1 monitor per usb port

A desktop will save you money. There is no reasoning in having just a laptop. Your desktop processor will be way better (and cheaper) than your laptop. The i7 laptop processors are crap compared to the i7 desktop processors.
