It's good fun to mock Harvey, the actresses he screwed and the democrats who campaign so hard for women's rights but turn a blind eye to harassment by their own crowd.
There is a lot bigger issue involved here however. We have laws to protect women in the workplace from harassment and what is termed a hostile workplace environment. These laws might apply if you are casting a movie. It's a job interview after all. Clearly they don't apply outside the literal employment relationship however.
So if the inducement is, have sex with a producer and you will be at the top of his rolodex for the next plum role, is that harassment? Or networking? What if I have a big house I'm thinking about selling and I invite comely realtors over to discuss it. Am I a harasser if I ask one of them out? Is it predatory for me to give the listing to a hot agent in hopes that I can get her in bed?
Men like Weinstein and possibly O'Reilly and Ailes view sex as transactional. You help me, I return the favor. It's been the way of the world for millennia. Now we are told it is deeply wrong.
