Harvard graduate lost $19 million in forex trading out of $23 million raised

See this is the part that I didn't get either. The judge was disgusted by her privileged background and yet she still felt Park should get off easy?

They most likely picked a feminist supporting judge for this case.

Someone who believes in the patriarchy and that all women are oppressed and victims.

Well you were talking about tax savings for the taxpayers and all...

Sure but that doesn't apply to crime universally. Murderers, time, weed users, no time. Kinda simple. Here the victims were greedy when they believed a psychology major was making "high double digit" returns consistently. That is 80%-ish returns. Apparently Harvard isn't a good enough school to teach them about real life.

Generally speaking the law is pretty easy on white collar crime, unless they want to make an example out of somebody.

She's from Harvard!! That's why. Notice her last name. It's a Korean name. Among Asians, Harvard is like the Heaven of universities. You can do no wrong once you've been to and even graduated from Harvard. You can have a degree in basket weaving, as long as it's from Harvard, Asian people will trust you with anything. Plus she had a brief stint with Goldman Sachs I believe. I saw that name popping up somewhere in the two articles so that is enough of financial experience. Harvard + Goldman Sachs, OMG! you are practically Warren Buffet in Asians' eyes. LOL

Someone obviously stopped trusting her...not sure if it was a friend, relative or former friend from Harvard whom money she stole.

I may re-read the article to see if she was also spending the money on a lavish lifestyle.

People are missing the point, she got a light sentence because there is a person that would be harmed unjustly if she were to be put away for an extended period, how about I send your mother to prison when you're an infant? is that fair to you? yes she wronged a few rich folks, but why commit a crime against an innocent child?

You do realize she was convicted and is going to prison...right ?

Thus, obviously they decided to...as you put it...commit a crime against an innocent child.

most important question is

WHO are those foolish gullible investors who invested in this Harvard graduate?
There is no such thing as guaranteed-get-rich scheme.
Sorry no pity, no sympathy for such gullible people.
Friends and family.

Yes it would be fair. If my mother did the crime, she needs to do the crime regardless whether I am a child or not. Unless you have zero relations or friends on this earth, somebody will get hurt and/or affected when you go to jail. Does that mean that nobody can go to jail now just because one of their innocent loved ones will get hurt? She wants the child to suffer less? Make all the best arrangements for the child before she goes to jail. Or better yet, next time, DON'T DO THE CRIME!!!

She got a lighter sentence because that judge was out to lunch that's why. LOL

The Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) trustee estimated actual losses to investors of $18 billion in Madoff case.
So he got 150 years, divided by 18000 million, that is 120 million for a year. This woman lost about 20 millions (19.5) and get 3 years, actually it is more severe punishment. If do it proportionally she only needs to do the service 2 months. Of course 2 months would be a joke as she lost so much other people money.

the first dollar carries the bulk of the sentence.
