Cambodia has the most public holidays in the world, celebrating 29 in 2019. That's followed by Sri Lanka which has 26 public holidays in 2019. Then it's India, which recognizes 21 public holidays, followed by Colombia, the Philippines, Trinidad, and Tobago's 18 days off.

Some years Colombia has 23.

The social benefit is enormous, many families have 'fincas', countryside houses where the extended family and friends meet at weekends. There is a whole internal economy based around holiday weekends (almost always Monday) where the city dwellers spend in the rural areas.

Of course malls and such are always open but the feeling of general sanity, mentally healthy people here is palpable vs the US.

I deal with Malaysia and I feel like every month there are several holidays and they are closed..
