Hang Seng (HSI), Kospi 200 (K200) Trading Journal! (14 Year Old Trader)

Well I'm ANNOYED.

A few days ago, my computer started making loud noises. It sounded like a fan was scratching against something.

Now, my computer is extremely fast and strong, and everytime I used it, I noticed absolutely NO problems, except for the noise coming from it.

So, my mom got fed up with the noise haha, and she demanded that my dad and I bring it in for fixing.

So we bring it to staples, and the tech guy says we will have to bring it in to the factory. We say alright, and he says I recommend we back it up.

So one day goes by (Saturday), and we get a call from the tech guy saying the hard drive of my computer is pretty much #$@&^ up. The computer however was running fine as can be, and is still the fastest ever.

So now he has to try and save ALL my files and hard work that I have put in that computer. He basically said because it is under warranty, I will be getting a completely new computer back...new hard drive, motherboard etc etc.

The thing is...I NEED MY FILES. I have a lot of my history on that computer...

Ok back to how this relates to my trading XD. Well now I am left with a sh$#y ass computer with one monitor so I will definitely NOT be trading futures :( . WAYY too much risk if I am trading something like oil or the HSI and it goes down.

So THE WEEK I AM HOME FROM SCHOOL (cries), I will not be trading to the fullest...darn.

I will still be trading my prop account however as it should be fine.

You should probably invest some time and learn how to maintain your own computer.

As someone else said, you should learn how to make your own backups using Windows Backup or some other piece of software. You should have TWO copies of every backup, on 2 separate USB external hard drives. Sure it might be a bit wasteful, but considering how much money you could potentially lose this week, it's a good lesson on seeing the big picture. It's a pain, but you will save yourself the downtime, and won't need to rely on Staples technicians.

BTW, those technicians like Geek Squad, etc have a notorious reputation of dumping every customer's hard drives onto their own hard drives and then peruse through the data to try to find anything interesting, so hopefully you don't have your emails, financial information or passwords stored on there.

The noise is probably just the hard drive, which means if you knew how to replace your hard drive, you could have done it this weekend and be set to trade on Sunday afternoon.

Yea lesson learned, I'm definitely going to start focusing more on this.

As far as back up goes, I suggest using amazon s3 (simple storage service) for backup, it is on cloud and very cheap. They have their own front end, but it is really slow. You can use bucket explorer for initial transfer, and then use firefox add on s3 to manage it.

As far as trading goes, do not listen to non sayers, yes the odds are against you, just like against anyone in retail space, but it is better to try and fail, then never trying at all.

Its one of the most relaxed ways of trading I have ever came across. It is a strategy that really has VERY little stress because you are making money off of natural order flow NOT your beliefs of market direction. When you put your belief into the market, stress follows.

Its consistent, stress free (for me at least, as I have and still trade oil futures XD), and is very low risk.

You have to ask yourself sometimes, do you want excitement, or do you want to make money.

So I said both! :D

BTW you have to have a prop account to rebate trade... you cant do it with even the LOWEST retail commissions. For example, my rate is 70c per 1000 shares.

Today I made about $200 on 150k shares just on C.

May be boring, but you do a LOT of shares :D.

hey thanks for the reply

im curious how is it "easy" to do so when almost everyone is doing the same and fight each other for fills? and how do you get filled before the bid/ask got cleared (you are usually behind millions)

btw im learning kospi200 too, but the commission is a bit too high (around 4.6 per contract with IB)
