handgun[s] idea

My son leaves home and buys a house. He wants to be able to defend his family and carry a handgun because the home is in a not-so-great neighborhood. Explain to me how he will buy a handgun and who would sell it to him. He effectively is banned from getting a handgun even if they are "legal".

What you are proposing is no different than a ban on handguns.

i can 'give" a handgun to anyone i choose, including my relatives,
under my new proposal

sure, there are ways around it, but that's true of many things -
if you want something bad enough

I believe your intentions are good, but your plan won't work. It will create a huge black market for guns and the criminal element doesn't give two shits about buying/selling "illegal" guns or anything else. Over time the criminal element will be very well armed and the average law biding citizen will not have a hand gun for personal protection. Carrying around a shotgun or rifle personal protection would be problematic.
Violence and killing isn't a gun problem, it's a human problem and some humans are prone to violence. Simple as that.

pure speculation

So you are urging to work around your new laws.

What if I don't have a handgun to give, or giving my handgun would leave me defenseless.

I sure that any proposal along these lines would require the registration of all handguns to be sure they are not being "sold".

So it's illegal to manufacture one under your laws, ok. It's illegal to buy and sell one, which makes it illegal to sell guns in circulation. Please tell me how that will prevent someone who wants to commit murder from buying a gun illegally from someone selling it illegally (because prices on guns will skyrocket and make them worth risking the misdemeanor). Do you think they'll be willing to risk the capital offense but not the misdemeanor?

What does your solution accomplish?

fewer and fewer guns available, or in circulation in the future is all;
nothing else

i see nothing wrong with that

marc

How do you figure that there will be fewer and fewer guns in circulation/available?

I agree that guns in circulation would level out under this scenario, but they wouldn't lessen.

Add to this the ability to print 3d guns now and who knows what the future will offer. Perhaps banning guns would be the spark that stokes the flame on 3d printed gun technology.

my guess is there would be fewer and fewer handguns,
but i could be wrong [i've been wrong before]
i can't see the future

i just think there are far too many handguns floating around,
that people can too easily get there hands on;
especially criminals, and young people...

not to mention average people
that lose a job, get a divorce, or simply get mad at someone or something, and take it out with an easily available handgun.
Someone who was previously a "good guy"

What we need is more jails that are NOT run by federal judges.
This would result in a huge reduction of gun violence in the USA.

I don't know why you think there would be fewer and fewer handguns. There are hundreds of millions in circulation. Why do you believe those in circulation would suddenly disappear?

Previous "good guys" don't commit crimes with firearms. They had problems to begin with, but no one noticed or cared.

Cocaine is illegal to sell, illegal to buy, illegal to grow(manufacture) and illegal to possess. However, it is extremely abundant in the United States.

I have no idea why I am entertaining this complete bullshit.
