Actually, the more I think about my teenager analogy the more I like it.

Besides raging hormones, what's the main reason for the stereotypical teenage behavior? We've probably all been through it ourselves. You've become physically adult but haven't figured out your place in the world yet. You've learned a lot but haven't had time or the necessary experience to integrate what you know into a rational, coherent worldview. You have no real accomplishments to your name yet. You're still dependent on others. Your scope of action is still limited by those others, which you think is unreasonable. You alternate between feelings of inferiority and delusions of grandeur. You lack the confidence and self-respect that is only earned through real independence and accomplishment; you often lash out at others in your frustration.

I think you could make a convincing argument that the Islam world hates the West for the same reasons that teenagers hate their parents and teachers.
