Hallmark Cards plans job cuts
Kansas City-based Hallmark Cards Inc., told employees today that its North America business must eliminate 225 to 250 positions by the end of the year.
Hallmark public relations director Julie O'Dell said some cuts will come through attrition. Others will be decided based on "redundancies and efficiencies."
Hallmark employs about 8,500 workers in the United States, with about 3,900 in Kansas City.
The company also announced to its employees an internal reorganization.
O'Dell said the company's existing core businesses will be structured "according to customer need, such as humor or encouragement" rather than segmented according to the greeting card, party supply or gift wrap divisions.
