Gwen Ifill

Speaking of Obama. Why isn't this guy up 20+ points in the polls?

He's had non stop, positive...no, make that pro active....coverage in the media. If anyone can post a negative story on Obama from the main stream media (FOX, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, ABC etc...) I would like to see it. Unbelievable that he is only up a hand full of pts., considering the implosion by McCain/Palin.

No the school of abstract thinking and sophistication.

Actually as a "thinker" you're perhaps the most compelling leftest on this site. You're sort of like me. I can tell you're not Joe Ivy League but in I.Q.-the ability to score abstract points-you're a creative playmaker who throws away the playbook when forced out of the pocket. That's not to say I have any intellectual respect for your conclusions but as mind I'd rate you CLEARLY more intuitive than inside the box arguers like loZZZer, Bigdave etal.

I think IFILL did her job perfectly like I said she would. It is not her job to call out people on lies and distortions. It is her job to see that people keep to the format (keeping time, making sure audience does not make noise, making sure candidates don't interrupt each other, etc.) That bitch Malkin should be shot for denigrating Ifill.

I'm not sure I agree with that. It's glaringly obvious that Palin had no clue on about half the questions she was asked, and was basically just making little mini-speeches on whatever subject she could segue into from the question she was asked. I would have like Ifill to interrupt and say 'The question was...'. Maybe I just wish that that's the role these moderators would take on. Otherwise it isn't a debate, it's... well, it's what we ended up seeing.

I'm sure the right would say that Ifill could have dialed Biden in a few times as well.

Gwen Ifill did a poor job in that respect. An effective moderator would not have lost sight of the fact that the moderator's duties include upholding the rules of engagement between:
A) the two participants
B) the participants and the questions

Political debates in which the moderator merely acts as a passive questioner do a disservice not only to the American populace, but to the political process itself.
