There's a range nearby. Longest I've shot and hit something with regularity was 300 yards. They have a 600 yard range but honestly, at that distance its more like a mortar shot.

I did buy a nice Thermal scope at a recent gun show. Just under 6k, but it is amazing. Pulsar.

Lots of good deals on low end AR's now. People are buying the so-called pistol style carbines instead I think. Check out Palmetto State Armory for a solid <$500 AR that gets pretty good reviews. Del-Ton has carved out a rep as a good low cost AR maker as well. S&W, Ruger, Springfield and many others offer reliable low end AR's.

Not a bad idea to stock up while you still can.
