I've often wondered just why liberals seem to be so kind and understanding when some animal goes berserk when it feels that it's offspring or its self is in imminent danger, yet become so indignant when a human reacts the same way. Prepared to meet force with equal or greater force.
The left always finds it very easy to point out the cost of The 2nd Amendment and gun ownership. Relentlessly regurgitating the body count. But never even consider the cost in lives of their gun-control agenda.
No the Oregon shooter did NOT have a rap sheet that would have prevented his gun ownership or purchase according to reports. Yes I believe that it may be possible to make it harder for mental cases to obtain firearms without infringing on the rights of the masses. But it's very important what one keeps in mind is the danger of enacting laws based on what someone "might" do. The First Amendment guarantees the right of Free Speech.... all responsible citizens know falsely yelling "FIRE!" in a crowded theater would be wrong, possibly resulting in panic and the serious injury or even death to other patrons. Perhaps the solution we should require a irremovable cork in each mouth to enter the movies. Just because someone "might" yell fire. Freedom of the press does not grant the right to "With Malice" slander. What's needed is a Government Agency Of Censer, someone "might" slander. We should also require background checks and permits for any and all "Assemble" one never knows, they "Might" not be peaceably.
Now I can see the liberals reading this rolling their eyes, and stating how conservative's are always so paranoid and its foolish to think all that freedom could be lost just because of a little common since gun-control. (translation: Fewer rights for the masses, little if any effect on crime or criminals) Conservatives have a right to be suspicious, we know what gun-control has led to in the past, just as we know history is littered with the failures of socialism, we've learned from the past. Liberals on the other hand are fond of telling everyone that "This Time it Will be Different"

I seriously don't get rangecontraction. At times I thing he is just trolling the P&R Forum acting like ET's version of Stephen Colbert with an extreme edge. At other times I am concerned he is serious. I just don't know what to think of his posts.
He has regularly been pushing the limits of allowed speech in P&R while posting rants that are anti-Muslim, anti-liberal, anti-black, etc. This is all in an environment where I have regularly urged everyone to be more civil.
When it comes to race, religion, and political views - I try to judge each person as an individual. Just because one black treated me poorly doesn't mean all blacks are bad - the same with every race. I live and work in a diverse world and attempt to be respectful of everyone - and only seek the same in response. We should judge people as individuals, and save our ire to shed sunlight on the absurdity of particular movements - there are certain things from the both the left and the right I find to be idiotic... and I do call out the duplicity and nonsense they foster.
The same applies to politicians, I judge them on particular actions I agree with or disagree with -- while not trying to frame them with false narratives. There are areas I both support and do not support U.S. Presidents - whether we are talking about Obama, Bush, or any other past president.
So where is this meandering harangue going - probably nowhere. But I am still confused by rangecontraction - is he ET's extremist Stephen Colbert or actually serious.
