People intent on killing others won't care if you make it a misdemeanor that they own an illegal firearm. They're already intent on committing a felony! Edit: Looked it up, 11.1 million people have a license to conceal carry. That doesn't include all firearm owners - just those who carry.

Unless you have the data to support how many of those shootings occurred with legally owned firearms you're pretty much shit-out-of-luck. Why? Because you have no solution for getting rid of illegal weapons.
