One, republicans have a majority in the House and a blocking minority in the Senate.

When dems had the house and filibuster proof senate they didn't try to take guns

The whole point of Fast and Furious was to coordinate a big gun seizure with handfed newspaper articles to "prove" what a big problem unregistered long guns and especially "assault weapons" were. Then there would have been the drumbeat for "common snese" controls, meaning eventually an outright ban on owning any semi-auto weapon.

AP Exclusive: Second Bush-era gun-smuggling probe

WASHINGTON (AP) — A second Bush administration gun-trafficking investigation has surfaced using the same controversial tactic for which congressional Republicans have been criticizing the Obama administration.

The tactic, called "gun walking," is already under investigation by the Justice Department's inspector general and by congressional Republicans, who have criticized the administration of Democratic President Barack Obama for letting it happen in an operation called "Fast and Furious".

Emails obtained by The Associated Press show how in a 2007 investigation in Phoenix, agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives — depending on Mexican authorities to follow up — let guns "walk" across the border in an effort to identify higher-ups in gun networks. Justice Department policy has long required that illicit arms shipments be intercepted whenever possible.

More Gun Control? Don't Hold Your Breath

(AP) After the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid cautioned Tuesday against a "rush to judgment" on stricter gun control.

A leading House supporter of restrictions on firearms conceded passage of legislation would be difficult.

"I think we ought to be thinking about the families and the victims and not speculate about future legislative battles that might lie ahead," said Reid, a view expressed by other Democratic leaders the day after the shootings that left 33 dead on the campus of Virginia Tech.

Democrats traditionally have been in the forefront of efforts to pass gun control legislation, but there is a widespread perception among political strategists that the issue has been a loser in recent campaigns. It was notably absent from the agenda Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled earlier this year when the party took control of the House and Senate for the first time in more than a decade.

I am amazed at just how gullible people are.

Do you think for a minute if the democrats thought they could enact a widespread gun ban they wouldn't do it? Look at cities they control, eg Washington, DC, chicago, NYC. All have draconian gun control.

I agree about DC ,Chicago and CA but Rudy was a republican and Bloomberg first ran for mayor as a republican in NYC

Local and state level dems in a few places haven't caught up with federal democrats

You seem to be confusing the democraps backing down from gun control, due to its unpopularity, with the democraps having changed their agenda about gun control. Which I believe was AAA's point.

... stealing from armed citizens is difficult and dangerous.
=========
Its even more difficult;
when the US Supreme court has a view of the second ammndment like the NRA

Its even more difficllt;
when JPFO-[Jews for Posssession of Firearms Ownership,] is alive & well.

Its even miore difficlut when more than half of the states AG;
sue the feds for unconstitutional power grap on ''health care''

Its even more difficult when plenty of people that voted /won in the last election house , voted against big Gov.

It's even more difficult when plenty of winners won in VA, NY, NJ races electing conservatives , we win.

None of these are predictions on upcoming elections;
simply a growing trend.

:D As the Chicago public officials joke;
''vote early & vote often.''Praise the Lord:cool:
