Grinding it out, day after day

Quote from lescor:

Pretty mediocre week +4,300 gross 119,000 shrs traded.

Got caught in some ugly healthcare stocks after the republican election win. I anticipated it and adjusted my orders, but not enough I guess. Then the next day I had a software glitch that prevented me from trading my main strategy on what would have been about a +$10k day. Oh well, those things happen in trading. Good volatility the last two days helped make up for it.

Excellent thread Lescor, i for one appreciate real traders sharing thier insights.

Hey Lescor,
If you don't mind my asking how old were you when you "left your wife and kids" to do this thing full time? If not comfotable you can skip this one.

I was 31, I'm 39 now. For anyone who didn't read my earlier post, I didn't "leave my wife and kids to trade". They stayed home while I went and traded in a prop office a couple thousand miles from home for a few months.

The day of the infamous "Corey-nary" :)

Days like that can happen to any successful trader (and most have had them). Those are the deep wounds that season a trader, providing an experience that can help avoid a future blow-up.

Speaking from my experience, I was very risk adverse and cautious to begin with. Then, I had a similar fat finger in the crude oil futures market a number of years ago that could have been devastating, and it gave me even greater respect for risk (including the risk of self inflicted stupidity). Great thread, Corey.

I remember the "Corey-nary" as well. Thats the real key to his success is that the next day you never knew it happened. He has the confidence in himself to get over it and start making trades again. Not so easy - but always impressed me.

Crappy finish to what was a decent week. Just a couple bad stocks on Friday that would not come back. Big move against me early, then flat line all day. Was also building into a couple small long positions to hold a while that finished red. -$8500 on the day, +4500 on the week, 657,000 shrs traded. $3,000 in errors didn't help either. 1k on a keystroke error after hours and 2k on obvious earnings news I somehow missed, got nailed in a stock that should have been disabled from the system.

Monthly summary:
Decent month, but most of it came in the first half. Some nice volatility to end the month though should pay off in the next couple weeks. Nothing particularly good or heinously bad stands out, which is just the way I like it. Traded all 19 days, 15 green and 4 red.

Net result was about $60,000 after all fees and commish. 2.4M shares traded.
