Green on the 1/4% Trading Tax

Quote from rsikit:

It seems everyone is worrying about nothing right now. This was an op ed piece only, its not being talked about in the financial community at all if you try and search for it. And if you read the Tobin Tax has been shot down numerous times espcially by our government. I know our government is stupid right now, but they would not take away substanial revenue from the banks they just bailed out since the gov is some of their biggest share holders now. Speculators count for a majority of the revenue for lots of the big firms. So this is just ET bringing this up over a little article of someone trying to get there 15 mins of fame. Nowhere on real financial websites is this being mentiones as a worry.

Except that this tax was a part of the orignial TARP program which didn't pass fortunately. That's the biggest reason why you should worry.

Introduced Sep 26, 2008
Reported by Committee (did not occur)
Voted on in House (did not occur)
Voted on in Senate (did not occur)
Signed by President (did not occur

The bill was introduced but didnt make it far as you can see so cannot worry about things like that. One of the supporters was Kucinich, he is a whackjob as it is. So It was introduced and then didnt make it the rest of the way.

Yea I think you are right, it didn't really even make it to the committee.

Yup didnt get anywhere, anyone can introduce a bill:) Yea it sucks to think about and worriesome if it gets farther but as of now and all I read I doubt it will come to frution. The link I posted below was from a bill I found a few years ago from the us saying it will withhold all money to the un until it makes sure the un is not engaging in any tax shcemes. It mentions airline tax among others including the tobin tax on currency transactions. So the us has a big fat no on this. and Biden is behind it as well:) Which is good since he will be in office.

your advise of not worring about the tax now (because it did not happen yet) is
similar to suggestion to set up stoploss only AFTER the loss already occurred.

it's like buying a gun after you're already killed.

negating the preventive measures is mother of all vices, IMHO

it does not matter that the probability in this particular time frame is less than 50%. it can jump up momentarily, as per Black Swan principle.

stay alert! give them to know before it's too late. you could never underestimate the stupidity, that's why common sense does not work.

:)
