Great forex news from Amibroker

Hi all,

Amibroker has just issued a new release (1.66) of its automatic quote downloader, Amiquote, which provides FREE live and EOD data for the following pairs:

EURCHF,EURGBP,EURJPY,EURUSD,GBPUSD,USDCHF,USDJPY

Until recently, Amiquote would retrieve FREE EOD data from Esignal, but Esignal cut off the spigot in the middle of last month.

For me, the not-so-good news at this time is that the number of pairs offered is limited compared to Esignal, which provided data for every pair imaginable. But perhaps more pairs will be added in time. I trade a system that looks for co-relations between various pairs, so the more the merrier.

However, the really good news is the live data.

Kudos to Tomasz, the owner/developer over at Amibroker.:)

FX yet, still learning, but from what I have seen, it's not that difficult to get free live data off the web for major FX instruments. Perhaps someone more experienced will correct me if I am wrong...
 
The point is that this data is automatically importable into a backtesting, charting, and analysis platform in AmiBroker, and that you don't have to pay $200 a month for the data to use it.

Hi electron,

There are several free data sources that I've come across, including Dukascopy and Forexite. They all have their pros and cons. Most offer only a limited range of pairs. I liked getting EOD via Amibroker because I was able to use the data in Amibroker with just a couple of mouse clicks and also port it into Excel very efficiently. Dukascopy, for example, is free as well but you are forced by their system to download the data manually one pair at a time. If you are working with a lot of pairs, this becomes something you want to avoid.

It's not free data though. The DDE link, for instance, is $100. And the charts cost extra, if I'm not mistaken.

hey chaos -- I'm running the app and it's a flat $100 for the feed/charting package. I would take the 7day trial, although I wish they quoted equity markets as well.

I agree that it's not as cheap at Tahoe; that is an excellent deal from Esignal.

Yes, but you have to pay for a monthly Esignal subscription first! Wouldn't it be better to pay a one-time fee for Amibroker of $199 and then subscribe to Esignal?

Maybe I'm missing something but it doesn't seem like that good a deal to me.
