I contend that with rising the costs of service station operation, transportation of product, taxes ect. that you'd be hard pressed to buy water for your tank (stipulating that the water is shipped in-not tap water, lol) at anything less than a couple of bucks a gallon.
Cars will use batteries.

Capitalism by default moves towards efficiency....
When one eliminates the need for secondary fuel distribution, one has made a major step towards efficiency.....
Also, this type of battery is also an answer to solar based electrical production....
SMU in Texas has recently created waste heat electrical generation, and there are companies with solar mirror oil heat systems that would work well with each other.....
Proper storage will add the finishing touches....
