A Virginia substitute teacher has been suspended after expressing approval of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine and urging students to read Russian propaganda outlets.

Arlington Public Schools suspended John Stanton, 65, who made the comments during a middle school Spanish class Friday, The Washington Post reported.

Stanton said he offered an opposing viewpoint and told students to read as many news sources as possible, including Sputnik News, which the FBI, CIA and National Security Agency have declared a “state-run propaganda machine.”

“The statement I think that got me was I said, ‘I personally support the logic of Putin,’ and what I meant by that is, he made a rational decision from his perception,” Stanton said.

A schools spokesperson declined to discuss Stanton’s comments or employment status.

In an email to the school board, parents said Stanton’s comments, expressing support for Russia and asking if anyone “hated Russia,” amounted to “advocacy of political positions, and Russian propaganda.”

Officials notified Stanton that he was suspended because of “an allegation of comments made to students during instructional hours regarding sensitive world events with Russia and Ukraine.” Stanton said he doesn’t plan to petition for reinstatement.

Stanton, whose résumé lists roles as an American Enterprise Institute researcher and “independent journalist,” said he writes for outlets such as Pravda.

In many ways it seems to me that the best trick was to convince blue collars (the Captain is rife with this) that there is always an equal balance. Rather brilliantly Roger Ailes deeply understood this was the way when he was working for Nixon and took it forward though talk radio and then Fox.
 
Idiotic Texas Congressman says that government vaccines are a greater crime against humanity than Putin's actions in Ukraine. Of course, it's on FOX. Guess who was the FOX host of the show.

While Russia's invasion of the Ukraine has taken the number one news spot; Covid is still number two. Anyone who has been watching the news can see that Covid coverage is still prevalent -- including the reality that the world hit the 6 million death mark this week from Covid-19.

Only to the Covid-denying Kremlin fan boys does it seem that Covid is no longer being covered. This is because all of their typical social media & blog disinformation sources have switched to pushing pro-Putin propaganda rather than Covid misinformation.

What's fascinating is how GOPers who live and die by their First Amendment rights (KKK, anyone?) glorify a dictator who would squash them like a bug if they said anything he didn't like.

As an aside, Russia apparently has gun laws that Republicans would never agree to: Russian citizens over 18 years of age can obtain a firearms license after attending gun-safety classes and passing a federal test and background check.
