Google privacy violation

Then leave chat on.

So meaning even if you didn't click the buzz thin, they can automatically follow you or what?

Can I just turn off the Buzz and leave the Chat on? I do need the chat as I use it to chat with some clients.

I assumed that by NOT clicking on Google Buzz which creates a public link of all your e-mail clients so that they can follow you kind of like twitter, I would not be signed up for the service.

However, after reading some comments attached to an article about the negative aspects of Buzz, I discovered that just by having a gmail e-mail account, Buzz and Chat are turned ON by default without my permission.

To turn these things off, go to the bottom of your gmail inbox, scroll to the very bottom of the page. Click on very small text links turn off chat, turn off buzz.

Google motto do no evil is bullshit. They should have these things as opt in, not automatic. I would advise anyone who has a gmail account to do this ASAP unless you could care less someone that you may have e-mailed in the past can now see all your e-mail contacts and who you are e-mailing, and what you are doing.

Thanks for posting. This is BS !

The fine art of spying is being carried out for advertising purposes. Advertisers are probably a bigger invasion of privacy than the gov't.

Good post.

How many times does this make? Privacy issues immediately with the introduction of Google Chrome browser until the peasants complained. Surely Google must know better and like to see what they can get away with.

Google are an evil faceless corporate behemoth who are single-handedly doing more to destroy privacy than any entity on earth - including the Chinese government. If you use gmail, or web mail in general, for anything sensitive then you are a dumb mofo and this little bitch slap should be a wake up call to change your silly habits. Google search is also unsafe unless you use at least 9000 proxies.

Basically you should not use any google product unless there is no adequate substitute, and even then you should take paranoid security precautions and avoid any unnecessary use of sensitive/private info & communications. It is the place to say hi to uncle fred or look up local home improvement stores, not for exchanging romantic emails with the office secretary, surfing hardcore porn sites, or sending/storing commercially sensitive data.

Basically, you should trust google (and facebook and other BS tech companies) about as far as you can throw a well-greased hippopotamus.

But P. T. Barnum was right and no doubt some idiotic fanboys will be lecturing us about how great google chrome is.

This is no different than the nonsense that goes on at Microsoft, Intel, etc. Except google seems better at it.

True but people already know Microsoft and Bill Gates are evil. For some reason they think google and facebook are different.

This girl from gizmodo is pretty beaten up about what's happened -

PS. Most, if not all $1billion+ companies are evil but of course they all tell us how great they are and how we their clients are of utmost importance. Read their crappy mission statements and they all look like a sick joke.

I'm not convinced they're evil, so far they've just been shown to be unbelievably stupid.
