Good software for Volatility Cones

Is anyone using Volcone analyzer? Seems like $200 bucks is not a bad investment for a turnkey solution. Plus whatever extra functionality Volcone may have.

Btw, I'm not affiliated with Volcone. Just looking for a convenient solution. Recommendations would be appreciated. Yes, I can probably do it myself, but there has to be a compelling reason to spend that extra time for development and maintenance.

The ultimate solution i would think would be to create an sql type query in Live Vol to scan for this info. However, that programming skill is beyond me right now.


Also, this a software issue. Its really in the unique province of option tradng. Thanks ahead for your replies.
 
Vol cones are quite easy to build yourself. I don't see any reason to pay for them. In Excel, pull daily ohlc values for a given stock, then simply calculate your vol figures of varying durations using the method(s) you prefer. Finally, solve for percentile ranks given each term, and graph them.

Any stock data supplier would be adequate. LiveVol would work, but you can even just import the data from Yahoo.
 
If you stay on the page long enough and then leave, a message pops up offering the program for $147, a $50 discount.

I'm not crazy about the sales letter and they ought to give you at least a one week trial, but if the product lets you save a list of stocks, price charts, plus the added vol cones and a graph or two with impl vol standard deviation calculations (which they claim to do), then it's not a bad price.

Like Doobs said, you can build it yourself, but if you don't have the skills or interest, $150 isn't much money. You can also get vol cones, a free data source and a LOT more by buying the Hoadley options package for the same price.
 
Oh yeah, I totally forgot about Hoadley.


His spreadsheets do have a ton of functionality. Enough rope to hang myself on. At best, I should be able to modify it to meet my current and future needs.
 
Hey Rosy,

I downloaded executables for the Requirements. Is running the executables and installing them into their default folders enough?

Btw, I don't care for these shady web products/services/ebooks. They are all formatted in a similar way that remind of those 'one weird trick to loose belly fat' products. Ugh...
