Good poker player = good trader?

Here's an intertesting statistic for you online poker players.

6 x $50 buy ins with a $500 target before i pull any cash back out.

Net result = $0 lost $300

Went to my local live Casino and bought for $100 x 5 days

Net result = +$1000

Online gambling is a SCAM !!!!!

I'm convinced it's rigged !!!

definitely depends on the person. I traded wiyh a couple of ex full time poker players who didnt turn out to be good traders. I one who turned out to be very good. On the other hand I know of two good traders who didnt start playing poker till after their trading careers took off and are very good at both.

I suck at poker. I have no patience for it and can't take it seriously. It's a game and I feel sorry for my friends in a way so I don't mind if they take my money (this is real subconcious- I have no feelings about losing in that sport. I can't take it that seriously. Give me something where I can physically dominate and then we're talking fun. Poker is for charity cases with regard to me. It's dominoes. It's checkers. I can't take it seriously. Surely it's just me but that's just my brain on that subject. I'm thinking about the real world far too consiously.

Hint: online play is much tougher than live play at any given stakes level.

Also, your samples sizes mean _nothing_. Nadda, zero, zip, zilch.

Finished day 3 of WSOP started with 8700+ we're down to 480, unfortunately I start tomorrow with a horrid short stack, but I will say it was a fabulous experience (plus I am guaranteed $30k which is nice).

You think online is tougher then live?

I would love to hear your reasoning.

The sample size was just a small experiment from the sum of my online vs live experiences over the last several years.

I wrote the post because I was curious to see if others where having the same experiences as me with the two.

If you have your edge at reading the other players and have a good pokerface then live will be easier for you, if you get all nervous and start sweating everytime you get the nutz... then you should try online.

My live results are slightly better than my online results. However, I assume you mean by $50 buy-ins that you are playing very low levels - 0.50/1.00 or something like that. In these online games, your variance will be massive, and a swing like you describe isn't unusual.

Maybe you mean $50 buy-ins as in $50 tourneys?

The "experiement" as quoted above was just ring games online at the .25 - .50 level.

I actually do a little better with tourneys online but still NET NET negative vs. 7 years of live play and positive.

I am just convinced that online Casino's are scams because I see the same pattern of losing over and over again regardless of my play style.

It would really surprise me to actually see someone that has made any money with any consistency online for any lenght of time longer then a year.

I know lots "say" they do BUT I still have serious doubts.

I understand. I personally do not think that the game itself is rigged, but there may be ways for individuals and groups to gain an unfair edge.

There was a good debate about this raging around the live table I was at last night.
