I've been thinking of buying-in to event #10. 7 card stud $1,500 buy-in. Last year's first prize was almost 193k from a 826 player pool.Quote from gunslinger:

If you're in the WSOP No-Limit Hold'em Main Event, you should definitely buy-in to the No-Limit Hold'em event #17 for $1,000. I'd even consider playing all of the No-Limit Hold'em events, I'd hope for one of them to pay back enough to cover the trip, your vacation, and the buy-ins. Plus, some advance bank already in your pocket never hurt anyone before playing in a big event. Especially the MAIN EVENT!
And you should heavily consider going to every backwoods poker room you can find leading up to the event. It'll be a valuable experience playing against people you've never met in the card rooms that you frequent. Plus, you can tell them all you won a satellite to the main event, right after you buy-in of course.

Already registered for the 1000 rebuy and 1000 no limit on Jul 8 and 10. I plan on leaving for vegas on the 7th and stay through the ME. After the first two (unless I finish in the money) I will be playing either satellites or smaller tourneys that run concurrent with the wsop. I know the palms has a full schedule set. I realize I will probably not cash in anything when Im out there, but for me, just the experience of playing the ME will be like going to the super bowl.
congrats gunslinger, I played in a few wsop events in 2001, right b4 it blew up..It was one of the funnest weeks i've had..The side games were amazing..Thats when all of it was at the Binions, with the talent roaming the pools at the Rio, you are guaranteed to have fun (one way or the other), I plan on being there, but probably not playing, I'm a pretty good golfer, so thats where my action will be! You won an online satellite, right? So how much off-line experience do you have? I'm not attacking so please don't read into it that way, but how much off-line poker experience do you have playing against people you have never met? That is a very important aspect of tournament play, especially this one, because you'll likely be facing a pool of over 5,500 people.
Anyway, the best of luck to you. (and try to get as much tourney time in as you can before the Main Event) If I do buy-in for any events, I'll post here at ET in the Hook Up forum. Maybe we could get a WSOP Elite Trader group going. Get some practice in on each other. Well, if anyone is interested in 7 stud, that is. Otherwise I suppose I could play some Hold'em...

I appreciate all the well wishes. LOL whiner, absolutly no offense taken. I've prob played only 12 live tourneys, placing in the money twice. I plan on being in Fl. for 2 weeks b4 I goto vegas. The Hardrock in hollywood has some decent tourneys everyday ($150-$300). I will play as many of those as I can to get my feet wet. For the main event there is prob going to be closer to 10k people, if I can survive the first day i'd be happy.
If any of you are going to be there PM fo sure, from what I understand there msy be other things to do in vegas besides cards.

Reading the latest Trader Monthly mag I got the impression from a short article that Chris Ferguson from Bright Trading was pretty much giving up trading to get back to full time poker playing. I don't have the article in front of me , but I thought it mentioned he wasn't nearly as successful trading, so he was returning to poker.
I just received an invitation to the "Real World" suite at the Palms hotel here in Vegas...for a press conference about a special entrant in the World Series of Poker...I'll probably go.

Well I've been in Vegas since the 7th. I have played two WSOP events, the first was $1000 rebuy in which I busted out right after the break, I then played the $1000 (no rebuy) with over 2500 entrants, I wasnt able to build a stack at all, but managed to squeak into the money finishing 239 earning a whopping $1800.
I just got back from the first day of the maine even ($10,000 buyin). OVer 2500 people started the day at noon when the day ended there were less than 800 ans was happy to be on the top 10 with about 70k in chips. I realize this does not mean tha much considering there are 3 more days of 2500 people each to play. When we are down to less than 3200 (4 days x (<800))we then divide into two groups of 1600 each and play down to 400. The remaining 800 then start to get paid. I believe minimium starts at $12,500, the top 10 get $1million plus and the winner from what I hear will receive $11 mil+.
Though I am down for the trip ( I also did not place in a few $1k and $500 tournies at the Bellagio and Wynn), I met my goal by making it to the second day of the Main Event.
Aside from that, I am getting extremely fat by combining chock full of fat meals , more than my share of alcohol and absolutly no exercise, boy is Vegas great.
P.S. My first table I played against Antonio tarver, the middleweight champ. Extremely nice guy and very well spoken. I did however get a little worried when I pulled a gutshot strait to beat his Aces and Kings, however he was a good sport. I dont play again till Tues, so I can get some rest.
