It's interesting she didn't resign during Obama's term. I guess if the choice is between being a Supreme Court justice, or staying home and watching The View, you keep the day job.
I hear ya, but I can also see her dilemma a bit.
She may have planned to step down while Obama was still in office but things got messy. First of all, Obama was President but her replacement (who she undoubtedly wanted to be lefty) would have to be approved by the Senate. But the Republicans took control of the Senate in the 2014 midterms- if my memory is correct here. So she would be creating an opening in an environment where even a moderate dem could not get approved- in a president's last year anyway.
And then, on top of that, Alito died which created an immediate opening- and the fact that Merrick Garland could not get approved proved the point that the Senate was not going to let the dems have a lefty- even a moderate one on the way out. So if she stepped down while they were already being disappointed on how the Alito opening was being handled it would be even messier- considerably more- for the dems.
Her best hope was to just ride it out and hope that Hillary was elected and a dem senate on top of that. Then if she resigned, Hillary would replace Merrick Garland/Alito with a full lefty and Ginsberg with a full lefty. Nice plan. except....reality gets to weigh in. Just as it will with her plan to be there another five or more years.
Trump pretty much nuked all of em.
Not to digress, but I have said before that I believe that Trump and the Republicans were low class in not passing a quick resolution thanking Merrick Garland for his service to the country and for presenting his credentials for review. And yes- the dems are even lower class for refusing to even meet with Kavanaugh. Just sayin, I would not be willing to go that low.
