Quote from RedDuke:
Exactly, I was genuinely surprised when I saw these posts. When I expressed my opinion that this is wrong and that professional counsel might be needed, this was interpreted as if I am telling people how to live their lives, and then insults started to come in.
I guess misery brings out a lot an anger. Happy people tend to be more balanced.
No, the problem is that your opinion wasn't wanted. Just because you and your fellow liberal friends think that someone needs professional counsel (when their actions don't convey what you would expect).
If you're arguing whether the national debt includes a particular variable, you can go back and forth debating the argument and use facts and statistics to prove you are right. There is a truth that can be found in these debates.
When you try to tell people that what they
feel is "wrong", you are essentially placing yourself as an authority on what is "right". That is the behavior that gets you attacked. This is the last time I'll try to explain it to you. If you cannot grasp this concept, then you are beyond my help. Perhaps you should get counseling.
"I feel cold in here. Turn up the heat."
"It's fine. The thermostat is at 75. You have problems, go put on a sweater."
"I don't have problems, it's cold. Turn up the heat."
"Perhaps you should see a psychologist."
"Fuck you, turn up the heat."
This is the conversation you're trying to run. You can't tell people how to feel, or tell them they should feel a certain way. People feel whatever they feel, and that is it. You can offer advice on how to deal with those feelings, but you can't tell them that what they feel is incorrect. It's absurd.
