ToS is a good platform, but the charting is kind of subpar and clunky imo. Any other suggestions?

If you are trading futures, AMP has a few good platforms free of charge, such as Quantower or Multicharts. Or you can use the free version MotiveWave in combination with Rithmic.
Do the free versions of any of these platforms include live real-time data?
No, but depending on what you need data can be cheap.
The CME bundle is $30 per month, but if you only need top of book data you can get the top of book bundle for $3 per month.
You have IBKR? They are cheap and do some nice charts.
Yes MultiCharts is good and you can pay to get data from data provider companies like CQG or Rithmic or e-Signal or directly from the exchanges.
recommend multicharts with cqg and amp or multicharts with rithmic and ironbeam or a good ib with the best support is Optimus <very helpful for someone starting out.

Yeah, TOS is pretty outdated at this point. I do most of my charting on TradingView (free) and just use TOS to place my trades.
