It's also probably been mentioned that the further you hit it the greater your chances of missing the fairway. If you aim down the center of the fairway and you're off line by 4 degrees, at 200 yards you are 14 yards off line. At 300 yards you are 21 yards off line and playing from the rough. Course designers tend to narrow the fairways after 200 or so yards to give the long hitters a little more challenge.
I'm happy just to be outside chasing a golf ball.
