Arguments against:
As expectations of future inflation rise, so do Treasury rates. In fact, the 10-year Treasury burst through 1% last year (after the Democrats took the Senate). Gold has historically been inversely correlated with long term rates. Interestingly, Morgan Stanley is bullish on inflation in 2021, and believes it could come sooner and faster than most expect, perhaps even as early as Q1. This would dampen the price of gold in my opinion.

Gold itself is a commodity with extremely inefficient / random price movement short term. It is better to be long gold miners that can profit immensely from higher prices then own Gold itself. This is because many of the large Gold producers aren't reflecting Gold above $1700 and that level is pretty safe throughout 2021 imo. You essentially are getting a free call on higher Gold prices at this time. Miners may fluctuate in price but any weakness in price will be rectified when earnings are released because it's not priced in.
