Going full time

I have written about this many times. I have decided (unless I change my mind) that March 15 is the date. I will quit the sales full time sales job and go full time with trading. I do have a side business where I sell Surf gear that brings in enough to cover my expenses and I will keep doing that.

Am I scarred? I sure am... am I excited,,, I sure am. Lot's of conflicting thoughts. I have decided I do not care what anyone thinks of this. I have been working on it for 8 years.
I feel that to cut the safety cord/leash of the full time job has to happen for me.

Welcome to day trading.

I dreamt about day trading 4 decades ago.
I read hundreds of trading books,
attended tens of trading courses,
analyzed thousands of charts,
and worked very very hard.

I am a day trader since 2 decades ago.

Day trading is actually the hardest profession.

They have those things for self-employed people.
That's not a reason to keep a job.

I had a friend who left Goldman Sachs with 4mm to trade on his own. The first 2 years he made 2mm each year. The last year he lost 2mm and went back to work. Wanna know why? LONG TERM DISABILITY.

I would never toss away an income earning job for an endeavor that 98% fail at without a quantifiable edge. Being nervous is probably the perfect human response in such situation.

So you are changing to FT trading, because you hate your job, and are very excited and very nervous. Sounds like a fair amount of emotion around the decision.

It does not doom you, of course, but it sub optimal for starting trading FT. FWIW, if trading where more like your Surf equipment side business, well known, track record, a bit of a grind albeit enjoyable, and positive cash flow that would be better. Better to escalate from PT to FT.

Trading is hardly ever the "solution", though it is often touted as the "ultimate solution". Best to assume it is just another job.

"it's as easy as it's made out to be."

What a total recipe for disaster....

I am glad that you are doing OPTIONS!

I have been day trading for a couple of years
now, and I have been reading and studying
options. Last week I applied to upgrade my
account to trade options, and am waiting to
get approved.

If they don't approve me I'll apply elsewhere.
I am excited to try options to see if it's as
easy as it's made out to be.

If you are fairly certain that you can cover
your living expenses, then don't hesitate
and go for it.

I wish you all the best!

Delighted when you do well and disappointed when you don't, those are fine. Excited and nervous? --Recipe for disaster.

I mean, if your job is secured, then that's probably best to stick with and keep trading as a hobby or a part-time, til you are so sure enough of leaving, if you are able to make good money.
