You are not a body. You are free.
The body is in need of no defense.
Defend the body and you have attacked your mind.
And you will impose upon the body all the pain that comes from the conception of the mind as limited and fragile, and apart from other minds and separate from its Source.
Correct your thoughts about the body and it will respond with health when they have been replaced with truth.
This is the body's only real defense.
The body needs no complicated structures of defense, no health-inducing medicine, no care and no concern at all. Defend it's life, or give it gifts to make it beautiful or walls to make it safe, and you are saying that your "home" is open to the thief of time, corruptible and crumbling, so unsafe it must be guarded with your very life.
Can you be at peace with such a concept of your "home"?
The body will be strong and healthy if the mind does not abuse it by assigning it roles it cannot fill, to purposes beyond its scope, and to exalted aims which it cannot accomplish.
Merely perceive the body as something apart from you, and it becomes a healthy serviceable instrument through which the mind can operate until its usefulness is over. Who would want to keep it when its usefulness is done?
The mind engaged in planning for itself is occupied in setting up control of future happenings. It does not think that it will be provided for, unless it makes its own provisions. Time becomes a future emphasis, to be controlled by learning and experience obtained from past events and previous beliefs. It overlooks the present, because it rests on the idea the past has taught enough to let the mind direct its future course.
Such a mind is refusing to allow for change. What it has learned becomes the basis for its future goals. Its past experience directs its choice of what will happen. And it does not see that here and now is everything it needs to guarantee a future unlike the past, without a continuity of any old ideas and sick beliefs. Anticipation plays no part at all, as present confidence directs the way.
Defenses are plans you undertake to make against the truth. Their aim is to select what you approve, and disregard what you consider incompatible with your beliefs of your reality.
It may not be easy for you to perceive that self-initiated plans are defenses. They are all means by which a frightened mind would undertake its own protection, at the cost of truth.
Enslavement of the body to the plans the unhealed mind sets up to save itself must make the body sick. It is not free to be the means of helping in a plan which far exceeds its own protection...a plan which needs its service for a little while. In this capacity is health assured. Everything the mind employs for this plan will function flawlessly.
A healed mind does not plan. It carries out the plans that it receives through listening to wisdom that is not its own. It waits until it has been taught what should be done, and then proceeds to do it. It does not depend on itself for anything except its adequacy to fulfill the plans assigned to it. It is secure in certainty that obstacles can not impede its progress to accomplishment of any goal that serves the greater plan established for the good of all.
The unhealed mind must misuse the body in its plans until it recognizes this is so. But when it has accepted this as true, then is it healed, and lets the body go.
Slavery is not an accident. Like all defenses, it is an insane device for self-deception. And like all the rest, its purpose is to hide reality, attack it, change it, render it inept, distort it, twist it or reduce it to a little pile of unassembled parts.
Actually, you are under no laws but God's. While you seek for salvation in things that have no meaning, you imprison yourself with laws that make no sense. You are not bound by them.
Think of the freedom in the recognition that you are not bound by all the strange and twisted laws you have set up to save you.
You really think that you would starve unless you have stacks of green paper strips and piles of metal disks. You really think a small round pellet or some fluid pushed into your veins through a sharpened needle will ward off disease and death. You really think you are alone unless another body is with you.
It is insanity that thinks these things. You call them laws, and put them under different names in a long catalogue of rituals that have no use and serve no purpose. You think you must obey the "laws" of medicine, of economics and of health. You think that to protect the body you will be saved.
These are not laws, but madness. The body is endangered by the mind that hurts itself. The body suffers just in order that the mind will fail to see it is the victim of itself. The body's suffering is a mask the mind holds up to hide what really suffers. It would not understand it is its own enemy...that it attacks itself and wants to die.
There are no laws except the laws of God, and they can never be replaced. The laws of God make free.
Here is a short list of laws you think you must obey. These are the "laws" of:
Nutrition
Immunization
Medication
Friendship
Good relationships and reciprocity
If you accept that you are a prisoner within a body, in a world in which all things that seem to live appear to die, then our Father is a prisoner with you. You believe this when you maintain the laws the world obeys you must obey. If you are bound in any way, you do not know your Father nor your Self...and you are lost to all reality. Truth is free, and what is bound is not part of truth.
Only in dreams is there a time when you appear to be in prison, awaiting a future freedom, if it be at all. In reality your dreams are gone, with truth established in their place.
Freedom is yours now. Should you wait in chains which have been severed for release, when God is offering you freedom now?
What God created limitless is free. You can invent imprisonment for what God has created, but only in illusions, and not in truth.
"Now" is the time of salvation. Unless the past is over in your mind, the real world must escape your sight. The past is made to hide the real world, which can only be seen now. It has no past. The past can be forgiven, and when it is forgiven, it is gone.
"Now" is the time of Christ who sees the real world through your eyes as they awaken from this dream. This vision can come to you this very day. Christ asks that he may use your eyes today, and thus to redeem the world. As you are saved, the world is saved with you...for all of us must be redeemed together. Redemption must be one.
What use do you, God's Son, have for what must die? Let the body be neutral and its neutrality protects it while it has use. And afterwards, without a purpose, it is laid aside.
Christ asks of you the gift of letting the past go - forgiving -that he may offer you peace of mind and take away all terror and all pain. Forgiveness is the only gift you give, because it is the only gift you want. Everything you give you give yourself. This is salvation's simple formula.
God's world is happy. Those who look on it can only add their joy to it, and bless it as a cause of further joy in them.
You only weep because you do not understand. The world you see is all in the past. You can look upon God's world today.

Of course I learned the major streams of thought in my day. I do not have a monopoly on truth. The original teaching that evolved into what is now called Hinduism was non-dualistic.
Non-duality is the truth.
My message is ultimately non-dualistic. Like Hinduism, it devolved into dualism as it was passed along through dualistic filters.
I simply distilled the truth out of the thought streams available, and got in communication with the Guide, Who taught me all I needed to know to overcome the world.
That education involved the fundamental errors of thought that led to the making of this world. I was able to make a comparison between one thought system and another, and thereby make a real choice.
I chose what I call "Atonement".
I was the first to do so.
I share this accomplishment among the Sonship. All accomplishments among the Sonship are shared.
So you are capable of this accomplishment also.
"You are not a body" is a statement of truth that has universal transfer value. What seems to be part of the truth leads you to the whole truth as you apply it universally.

What could it be but death?
If God is a body, He is a liar and deceiver, as He tries to present Himself as the Author of life and not of death.
If God is a body, he must be full of false promises and offering illusions in place of truth.
The body's apparent reality makes this
view of God quite convincing. In fact, if the body were real, it would be difficult indeed to escape this conclusion.
And every grievance that you hold insists that the body is real.
To hold that the body is real is to overlook entirely what your brother is.
A grievance reinforces your belief that he is a body, and condemns him for it. And it asserts that his salvation must be death, projecting this attack onto God, and holding Him responsible for it.
To this carefully prepared arena, where angry animals seek for prey and mercy cannot enter, the ego comes to save you.
According to the ego, God made you a body. Very well. Let us accept this and be glad. As a body, do not let yourself be deprived of what the body offers. Take the little you can get.
Yet if you are a body, it is apparent that God gave you nothing. The body is your only savior. It is the death of God and your salvation.
This is the universal belief of the world you see.
Some hate the body, and try to hurt and humiliate it. Others love the body, and try to glorify and exalt it. But while the body stands at the cent of your concept of yourself, you are attacking God's plan for salvation, and holding your grievances against Him and His creation.
This way, you will not hear the Voice of truth and welcome It as Friend. Your chosen savior - the body - takes His place instead. The body is your friend...while God is your enemy.
The ego's fundamental wish is to replace God. In fact, the ego is the physical embodiment of that wish. This wish surrounds the mind with a body, keeping it separate and alone, and unable to reach other minds except through the body that was made to imprison it.
You've read Sen. John McCain's account of his experience at "Hanoi Hilton"? In solitary confinement, he and his comrades communicated by tapping on the walls of their cells according to an agreed on set of codes.
The body is a cell in which a mind seems to be imprisoned, so long as it identifies with the cell. In the cell, its forms of communication are limited. Words are not much better than tapping on a wall relative to the kind of communication the mind is capable of. Even the internet is a limit on communication, although it seems better than word of mouth.
The limit on communication - the body - cannot be the best means to expand communication. Yet the ego would have you believe that it is.
Although the attempt to keep limitations that a body would impose is obvious here, it is perhaps not so apparent why holding grievances is an attack on God's plan for salvation.
Consider this: Are not grievances always associated with something the body does? A person says something you don't like. He does something that displeases you. He betrays his hostile thoughts with his behavior.
With the body, you are not dealing with what the person is. On the contrary, you are exclusively concerned with what he does in a body. You are doing more than failing to help in freeing him from the body's limitations. You are actively trying to hold him to it by confusing it with him, and judging them as one.
In this way is God attacked, for if His Son is only a body, so must He be as well. A creator wholly unlike his creation is inconceivable.
It is as sure that those who hold grievances will redefine God in their own image, as it is certain that God created them like Himself, and defined them as part of Him.
It is as sure that those who hold grievances will forget who they are, as it is certain that those who forgive will remember.
To hold a grievance is to forget who you are. To hold a grievance is to let the ego rule your mind and to condemn the body to death.
Perhaps you do not yet fully realize just what holding grievances does to your mind. It seems to split you off from your Source and makes you unlike Him. It makes you believe that He is like what you think you have become, for no one can conceive of his Creator as unlike himself.
Shut off from your Self, your Self seems to sleep. While the Self remains aware of It's likeness to Its Creator, the sleeping part of Its mind weaves illusions. The sleeping part appears to be awake, but it is not. All your experiences in a "body" are the dream of a sleeping mind...dreaming of grievances.
Can this whole world arise from holding grievances? Oh yes! For he who holds grievances denies he was created by love, and his Creator has become fearful to him in his dream of hate. Who can dream of hatred and not fear God?
