A lack of evidence doesn't point to anything but a lack of evidence. A blind man has a lack of evidence of light and color, but that certainly is not a proof of no color nor light.

The evidence you can gather is not of God, but of this world....material, limited, temporal, derived from the instrumentation of a limited human mind, and limited human senses.

A lack of evidence, the kind you are referring to, is in no way a proof of non existence.

You are most illogical in your conclusions.

You begin with an assumption that God would leave evidence of His existence that you could gather, but have no proof at all that God would necessarily do so.

I can understand someone saying that they will believe in God only if they have evidence of God, but to conclude non God on the basis of no evidence of God (as if your limited mind could fathom God...which by the way, is also illogical, as a limited mind cannot grasp nor understand an Unlimited God) is irrational.

I have always thought about your question this way: The world was perfect before the fall. Adam and Eve "spoke" for mankind when they effectively told God to bug out, we were going to do things our way.

God, having decided to fully give mankind free will, was then "constrained" (and constrained isn't fully the right word for this) to act the way He has. In His mercy, He sent His Son to bear the cost of our transgression.

My understanding of the scriptures is that things will be much better in the millennium, and back to conditions in the garden of eden in heaven.

Being a man of numbers and statistics, I did a statistical study of the probability that 64 Old Testament prophecies would be fulfilled by chance. The results blew my mind! Not wanting to "preach" so to speak, if those charts would be of interest to you, drop me a message and I'll put them on a server or email them. That study spoken in my "language" (simple statistics), set my mind at ease that the scriptures were a special book, and deserved deeper study.

you seen to forget that believers claim god left the bible as his evidence.

if we use you way of reasoning santa claus exists untill you can provide evidence he does not. how would you prove to me that santa claus does not exist?

so god is holding a grudge over mankind because two innocent people in the adam and eve fable made a mistake and ate an apple? sounds like a cruel vindictive king of old doesn't it?

the problem of the prophecies is not none of them are specific and are interpreted to have fulfilled through convoluted reasoning most important prophecy, that of jesus being the messiah still hasn't been fulfilled according to the jews. since jesus was a jew they should know.

You are using believers claims as some evidence of God that you are refuting?

Come on now....

When it comes to Santa Claus, I am not saying Santa Claus exists, but a lack of evidence of Santa Clause is not a proof of non existence of Santa Claus.

The way it works, is that to have a proof of non existence of something, you need to demonstrate that it is logically impossible for that something to exist.

There is no proof or evidnece that God doesn't exist, any more than there is proof or evidence that God does exist (in the manner you are using proof and evidence.)

Forgive my ignorance and audacity to jump into this interesting thread. I really couldn't constrain myself. My question is as follows:
Why would a god/deity cover his tracks so well that mere and ignorant (faulty, if you like) mortals like us can't for certain determine his/her/it's existence and have to depend on tales handed down over the millennia? Why would he care whether anyone believed in him? Or, put differently, since when does God need our approval or belief in his existence? Unless he suffers from poor self esteem - a quality apparently very common amongst humans.
There is only one thing I'm certain of and that is that we'll all find out the answer to this discussion eventually - shame we won't be able to pass the answer on to those still alive.

by your reasoning all gods exist because you cant prove a negitive. that is how superstions flourish. you cant prove some kind of demon does not exist so someone somewhere will believe it is true.
