GM on it's knees in front of Congress

Quote from dsq:

Why would you rather make 33% less?
Because Detroit is a shithole. You couldn't pay me to live there.

I also believe that non-union employees of companies like Honda have a better opportunity to move up the ranks in the company.

With GM, management and skilled labor are two completely different worlds. Most of the managers have never worked on the assembly line and can't relate to union worker at all.

Arent the american cars and parts mostly made in america where as asian cars are all imported parts and only assembled here?

Um, no. It's a well known fact that just the opposite is true. Japanese cars have more American made parts than American cars.

However, at least with GM, the profits stay mostly in the US. Why do we want to make Japs wealthy?</b>

I think gm,f make shit cars and have shit ceo's but 20 bil aint much when you are talking about 800bil and 150bil alone to aig.
This whole fiasco is shameful.

One time, Consumer Reports compared 6 of the mainline, popular midsize cars. All 3 of the "foreign" cars (Maxima, etc.) were made in America. 2 of the 3 "American" cars were made in Canada or Mexico. Many parts are also made in Brazil.

So, what does "American" car mean again?
