Glenn Reynolds: After Yale, Mizzou, raise the voting age — to 25

precisely. And that is exactly what needs to be done to fix the ailing U.S. Economy. The money is in the wrong places now to work for the Economy, it has to be moved to the right places. There are those who think a rise in the minimum won't accomplish anything useful. They couldn't be more wrong. But you've got to be joking regarding the rate you've suggested. That is near the official inflation rate! We have got to do much better than that if we want to see any improvement and move away from taxpayer subsidy of corporate wages.
not joking, just pragmatic. That rate can pass now without disrupting small business owners who are most affected. And yes, it's about the inflation rate. And any raise no matter how high will eventually end up the same way. I'm just advocating a slow gradual but often raise, like every three months on time you can count on. And remember, many union contracts are tied to the min wage.

well you'll need a phased in initial jump to correct the damage done by lowering the minimum between 1965 and now by $3.25/hr. After that you can move it at the inflation rate .

LOL @ the irony of seeing Mr. ON IGNORE!!! himself commenting on this piece.

"Mr. Affected"...the same guy who has been bitching for years about others using the ignore list and then placing dozens on his own ignore list...that's leftism in a nutshell...

What makes you believe that this current crony capitalism regime wants small business owners to succeed? I hear alot of lip service every few years, but mostly I see draconian measures enacted to ensure their ultimate failure...After all, the big industries continue to consolidate and increase their "monopoly-like" status, creating more pricing power (in a bifurcated economy)...Eliminating the small business competition with impossibly high minimum wage laws seems like par for the course these days.

What needed to be done was to let these asset bubbles collapse back in 2008...why do we need to essentially double the minimum wage? I'll tell you why...because the costs of rent, food, tuition, medical insurance and anything else you can imagine have gone skyward since we decided it was "prudent" to re-flate the collapsed credit bubble...Now, we risk enacting some of your favorite "centrally planned" economic measures of doubling the minimum wage as we are staring into the initial stages of another recession..Good luck to those kids and their $15 min wage when many of these businesses go into the tank and lay-offs begin to pick up...

The problem with these sorts of populist movements is that they are always trying to fit a square peg into a round hole...An economy held together by duct tape with 8 years of ZIRP and a "jobs recovery" of waitresses and bartenders is not the time to arbitrarily decide to double the minimum wage.

Exactly. Democrats hate small business. Republicans pay lip service to them but they jump through hoops for big defense contractors, etc. Fiorina was right about big business liking big government and vice versa.

my plan involves raising it regardless of the "inflation" rate
your plan bets on inflation and leaves it in the hands of the government.

Democrats hate small business owners and the Christian right. That's because they are a collection of union workers, perverts, atheist know-it-alls, freeloaders and various other scum. Outside of that they are to be admired for... never mind

well I don't know if they hate them, but they are certainly suspicious of anyone they can't control and doesn't contribute much to the campaign.
