Getting series 7 as non American

I'm Canadian, working in the US on work visa, working for an outsourced company as a contractor for an investment bank backoffice. Ultimately, I want to be a trader.

I will not be able to be sponsored by my firm. I wonder if any other firms would sponsor me if I decided to change jobs. My feeling is no, unless I were hired full time.

What would be the best way to get the series 7?

Joining, one of those random invesment companies as a broker part time.

Or a prop firm that requires series 7 and put up some money and do some remote prop trading just for the liscence.
 
The only requirement is that you are sponsored by an existing Broker/Dealer...

OR

The way I did it...
You can apply for Broker/Dealer registration...
And then sponsor yourself.

Even if you fail to ultimately get Broker/Dealer registration...
A process that takes about 6 months...
You will have gotten the Series 7...
Plus the General Securities Principal (Series 50 something)...
Plus the Chief Financial Officer (whatever that is today).

There are always creative ways to get things done...
Especially if you have capital.
