I mean lots of people experience your "attempting to retrieve data" hang on charts. Some more than others. I experience it a lot pre-market. And generally speaking your charts are always slow to load. But really? In the middle of the trading day?

While IB does offer chart they are not great. IB strength comes from costs and access to most markets around the globe. Just use another solution for charts, we use NinjaTrader. Great charting and trading tool. Totally free until you go live, then dirt cheap.

make sure to use gateway and not TWS.

Its not the chartting necessarily...its their data feed and how TWS handles it. I dont need fancy charts. I just need them to work

Yep. Data feed is shit as well. We use Kinetick and IQfeed. IB aggregates ticks and release every 250ms or so.

I dont need tick charts and the 250ms is perfectly fine for my discretionary trading.

But I do need the charts to work and load in a timely manner. This seemingly simple thing is difficult for IB

I would never rely on their charts. Java is lagging. You can rely on their stability as far as trading goes. Rock solid, apart from midnight reset which is ridiculous.

I'm also missing charts. IB has otherwise been fine this week. I rarely encounter a problem honestly. But today I'm missing my charts.
